FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Website Helps Women Find Plan B ("The Morning After Pill")

AUSTIN, TX - February 19, 2007

This week, The Bush Relief Fund, in conjunction with Whole Woman's Health and The National Network of Abortion Funds, launched a new website (www.morningafterpillaustin.com) that allows Central Texas residents to quickly find the closest and cheapest Plan B retailers near them.  This groundbreaking website, found at
www.morningafterpillaustin.com, provides Plan B pricing for over 200 retailers in the Central Texas area.  Users simply need to type in their zip-code to find an extensive list of local Plan B retailers.

Plan B, also known as Emergency Contraception or The Morning After Pill, prevents pregnancy up to five days after unprotected, compromised, or forced intercourse.  The FDA approved Plan B for over-the-counter sale to adults late last year.  Since the release of Plan B's "dual" status, family planning organizations have been working diligently to inform the public about how to access Plan B without a prescription.  Currently, anyone 18 or over with proof of age can purchase Plan B without a prescription at most local pharmacies and women's health clinics.  However, women under 18 must still have a prescription to purchase Plan B.

Although Plan B can be used up to five days after unprotected, compromised, or forced intercourse, it is most effective at preventing pregnancy when taken as soon as possible following intercourse.  Therefore,
www.morningafterpillaustin.com is especially important to Central Texas women because it reduces the extra time and hassle spent on locating a Plan B retailer.  Furthermore, women's health experts recommend that women buy Plan B before they need it, so it can be taken immediately after a sexual encounter.  Women who do not need emergency contraception right now can also use www.morningafterpillaustin.com to find a retailer and purchase Plan B "before the fact."

Only recently launched,
www.morningafterpillaustin.com has already hosted hundreds of unique visitors.  Coupled with a strategic advertising campaign, creators want to educate as many Central Texas women as possible about the accessibility and use of Plan B.  Funded by a generous grant through the National Network of Abortion Funds, creators of www.morningafterpillaustin.com are seeking additional funding to launch similar websites in cities across the country.

Plan B Emergency Contraception

Plan B Emergency Contraception is now available at the pharmacy counter without a prescription if you are 18 or older. It is also available at many women's reproduction health clinics. If you are under 18, in most states including Texas you will need to get a prescription from a doctor and fill the prescription at a pharmacy.

Plan B is a backup method of birth control. It is not the abortion pill (RU486). For more information about Plan B go to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website.
