The
first step is to determine how far along in your pregnancy you are.
Think back to the first day of your last normal menstrual period and
count the number of weeks since that day. This will give you an
estimate of how far along you are. If you can't remember, or if your
last period was unusually light, you may need to get a sonogram to
determine your gestation. Once you know how far along you are, you can
find out how much an abortion will cost.

| Call the clinic nearest you
to find out the cost of an abortion and set up an appointment. You may
need to call several clinics to find the best price. Some clinics may
not be able to help you if you are further along in your pregnancy. If
you can't locate a clinic near you or are confused about which clinic
to go to, call your local Planned Parenthood or the National Abortion Federation hotline at 1-800-772-9100. |

Determine
how much money you have right now and all the possible ways you can
acquire the amount needed. List five people you can ask for twenty or
more dollars. Write down the next time you will receive a paycheck or
other form of income and how much money you can take out of it.
Consider other ways to raise money: hold a yard sale, sell CDs or
books, pawn something, get a temporary job, do odd jobs, babysit, clean
houses, housesit, be a dog walker, use a credit card, use a trusted
friend or family member's credit card, etc. Add up all of the figures
written down: this is the amount of money you can raise for your
abortion. If you have all you need, then that's great! Please keep in
mind that abortion assistance funds have small budgets and must help
many, many women. You will be responsible for most of the cost of your
abortion.

If you need more money than the typical abortion assistance fund grant
(usually between $50 and $75), you may want to ask the clinic if they
can refer you to any other abortion assistance funds (local, state and nationwide) that can help you. |
